Ongongo, meaning “magical” in Herero, truly lives up to its name. Nestled in a remote canyon in northwest Namibia, this stunning spot features warm, relatively warm water year-round. Located 6 km from Warmquelle and about 25 km south of Sesfontein, it’s roughly 90 km north of Palmwag on the C43. The closest fuel stations are in Sesfontein and Palmwag.

Your Home in the Wilderness

Our 9 luxury well furbished campsites and facilities, can be accessed by 2×4 vehicles (ONLY bakkies / SUVs), but with caution as the road is rocky and takes some time to navigate through. It is NOT possible with a sedan vehicle. 2 x 4 drivers are not advised to take their vehicles into the gorge, which is 4×4 access only. Vehicles can be left in a parking area at the top and equipment carried down. We highly recommend traveling with 4×4 vehicles!

What you Get

Take a tour along the canyon and the Ongongo creek, following the stream to its origin where a massive tree shelters a natural spring that is warm enough for swimming all year round. Our nine luxury campsites can accommodate eight guests and two vehicles, and each campsite has its own private ablution facilities, hot showers, washbasin and shaded area to relax in.

Ongongo Waterfall Campsite

Experience the wonders of Ongongo through a variety of immersive activities. Explore the scenic beauty of the canyon, enjoy the tranquil landscapes, and discover the diverse wildlife while supporting essential conservation efforts.

Walking Tour (approx. 1h)

A walk up the Ongongo creek to the upper level, following the stream all the way to its origin where a massive tree shelters the natural spring. From there we continue in a north-westerly direction, hiking up and out of the canyon. High on the plain we walk for a couple of hundred metres with vistas to the west. We descend back down into the canyon a bit downstream from the campsite and make our way back to the camp. Water and snacks need to be provided by the guests themselves.

Walking Tour (approx. 2.5h)

A walk up the Ongongo creek to the upper level, following the stream all the way to its origin where a massive tree shelters the natural spring. From there we continue in a north-westerly direction, hiking up and out of the canyon. High on the plain we walk for a couple of hundred metres with vistas to the west. We then continue along the mountain range, ascending to the secret caves of Warmquelle. After taking a quick breather we descend back onto the plain and head back to camp. Water and snacks need to be provided by the guests themselves.
